Cerebrolysin 60 mg

Typical daily range: 20–32 mg once daily (gradual titration); split doses for >20 mg.

  • Reconstitute: Add 3.0 mL bacteriostatic water → 20 mg/mL concentration.
  • Typical daily range: 20–32 mg once daily (gradual titration); split doses for >20 mg.
  • Easy measuring: At 20 mg/mL, 1 unit = 0.01 mL = 200 mcg (0.2 mg) on a U‑100 insulin syringe.
  • Storage: Lyophilized at room temperature ≤25 °C (≤77 °F); after reconstitution, refrigerate at 2–8 °C (35.6–46.4 °F) and use within 7 days; do not freeze.

How it works

Cerebrolysin differs from most peptides covered on this site in that it isn't one defined amino-acid sequence — it is a biological mixture of low-molecular-weight peptide fragments and free amino acids derived from porcine (pig) brain tissue.[1] Sold outside the United States as an injectable solution, it has been studied for decades in neurological conditions including ischemic stroke, traumatic brain injury, vascular dementia, and Alzheimer's disease.[3] Because it is a biological mixture rather than a single synthesized molecule, its exact composition can vary somewhat by manufacturing batch.

Benefits & side effects

In dementia trials, Cerebrolysin has generally been described as well tolerated, with dizziness or vertigo the most common complaint. In one Alzheimer's disease trial, adverse events actually occurred slightly more often with placebo (73%) than with Cerebrolysin (64%), including headache, dizziness, and anxiety.[14] However, the 2023 Cochrane stroke review flagged a probable increase in non-fatal serious adverse events, and a published case report described a life-threatening anaphylactic reaction after intravenous administration.[3][24] Labeling used outside the United States lists several contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
  • Epilepsy or seizure disorders
  • Severe renal impairment

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and seizure history warrant clinician review given the limited data available.[2]
