HMG 0.15 mg

Typical protocol: 75 IU three times weekly for 12–16 weeks, usually combined with hCG therapy.

  • Reconstitute: Add 3.0 mL bacteriostatic water → 25 IU/mL concentration.
  • Typical protocol: 75 IU three times weekly for 12–16 weeks, usually combined with hCG therapy.
  • Volume consideration: Each 75 IU dose = 3.0 mL, requiring a 3 mL syringe or multiple 1 mL injections.
  • Storage: Lyophilized: refrigerate at 2–8 °C (35.6–46.4 °F); after reconstitution, use promptly or refrigerate and use within a few days.

How it works

HMG stands for human menopausal gonadotropin, generically classified as menotropins. Despite being searched for as an "HMG peptide," it is not a short synthetic peptide at all — it is a biologic hormone medication containing follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) activity, the same gonadotropins the pituitary gland normally produces.

Traditional HMG preparations are purified from the urine of postmenopausal women, whose gonadotropin levels rise once ovarian estrogen feedback declines. In the United States, an FDA-approved menotropins product is marketed as MENOPUR.[1] Potency and labeling vary by brand and country, so an informal online reference to "HMG" should not be assumed equivalent to any specific approved medicine.

Benefits & side effects

The strongest evidence for HMG sits in reproductive medicine: ovarian stimulation protocols in IVF and other assisted reproductive technology (ART) cycles, and ovulation induction in select anovulatory conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome unresponsive to first-line treatment. Systematic reviews have compared urinary gonadotropins like HMG against recombinant FSH in ART as a treatment-category comparison, not as a declaration that one is superior for all patients.

In men, gonadotropin therapy combining hCG with an FSH-containing product such as HMG has a defined, evidence-supported role in hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, where the pituitary fails to adequately signal the testes. Evidence for broader "idiopathic" male infertility is weaker, and no credible clinical evidence supports HMG for weight loss, anti-aging, or general wellness — none of which appear anywhere in its approved labeling.
